DHS To Pilot And Tourism Reps: Scans And Patdowns To Continue

November 13, 2010: Aaron Dykes & Alex Jones / Infowars.com – November 12, 2010

DHS Chief Janet Napolitano has rebuffed industry concerns at a White House meeting today, frustrating pilot & tourism representatives worried about an economic backlash and traveler revolt…

In a hastily-called emergency meeting at the White House today, DHS director Janet Napolitano told representatives from the most powerful pilot’s union as well as the travel & tourism lobbies that despite the backlash of concerns about airport security, TSA’s use of invasive body scanners and humiliating patdowns, including the groping of passenger’s breasts and genitals, would continue. The frustrated executives were anything but satisfied by her statements.

Geoff Freeman, Executive Vice President for the U.S. Travel Association, walked away from the meeting stating that it was “not entirely reassuring.” With tangible irritation, he commented, “We understand the challenge DHS confronts but the question is where we draw the line.”

The ramped up security measures have set off what Freeman says are hundreds of calls from travelers threatening not to fly. A whole range of interconnected tourism industries are concerned about the detrimental effect of security on business and travel.

The airlines estimate that they’ve lost $9.4 billion in revenue due to “avoided” travel. Further, a 2008 survey found that 41 million potential fliers stayed home due to concerns about a “broken” or badly impaired system.

“You can’t talk on the one hand about creating jobs in this country and getting this economy back on track and on the other hand discourage millions of Americans from flying, which is the gateway to commerce,” Freeman railed.

However, Napolitano made clear that TSA’s operations would not only continue but expand as new technology is rolled out. “Trusted Traveler” programs have been scheduled for implementation, and would utilize biometric data such as retinal scanning for identification.

Travel-related industries are particularly concerned that the onset of a ‘travel revolt’ and a flurry of news coverage about groping and molestation occurrences at check points have come right before the holidays, the heaviest travel season of the year. Citizen groups have advocated either not flying or refusing to go through the body scanners.

A “National Opt Out Day” protest has been coordinated on Nov. 24, the day before Thanksgiving, traditionally the busiest single day for air travel of the entire year.

Representatives for pilot organizations were also at the meeting with Napolitano and TSA Administrator John Pistole. John Prater, president of the Air Line Pilots Association, objected to the unnecessary scrutiny of airline pilots and flight attendants, who, unlike TSA’s own employees, have already undergone background checks and who have been cleared to enter the cockpit.

Pilots have already been trusted to operate the most dangerous potential “weapon” aboard any aircraft– the plane itself. What contraband could they could possibly conceal on their person that would be of greater concern? “Pilots are not the terrorist threat,” Prater commented. “Seeing scarce security resources being used on pilots makes absolutely no sense.”

Also challenging security policy, Capt. Mike Cleary, president of the U.S. Airline Pilots Association, wrote a letter this week advising pilots not to subject themselves to body scanners (i.e. Advanced Imaging Technology) due to health concerns about the radiation as well as concerns about the intrusiveness and behavior of TSA agents.

In truth, the security measures have not been put in place to curb terrorism—major media outlets have reported on the fact that in TSA’s nine year history, it has failed to stop even one terrorist.

Instead, the economic and privacy costs of security are shifted directly into the private security complex. Michael Chertoff authorized contracts for the body scanners and other security technology during his reign as head of Homeland Security, only to benefit directly from multi-billion dollar contracts as an industry representative and lobbyist for the body scanners after leaving the Bush Administration.

Global Warming And “Climate Change” No Longer Frighten Europe

with 3 comments

November 13, 2010: Hans Labohm / The Washington Times – November 5, 2010

The fight against the delusion of dangerous man-made global warming remains an uphill struggle. For decades, the climate debate has been obfuscated by cherry-picking, spin-doctoring and scaremongering by the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and other climate alarmists, including the environmental movement and mainstream media. Their massive campaign to overstate the threat of man-made warming has left its imprint on public opinion. But the tide seems to be turning.

The Climate Conference fiasco in Copenhagen, the Climategate scandal and stabilization of worldwide temperatures since 1995 have given rise to growing doubts about the putative threat of “dangerous global warming” or “global climate disruption.” Indeed, even Phil Jones, director of the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit and one of the main players in Climategate, now acknowledges that there has been no measurable warming since 1995 despite steadily rising atmospheric carbon dioxide.

People are paying attention, and opinion polls in many countries show a dramatic fall in the ranking of climate change among people’s major concerns. People also are beginning to understand that major rain- and snowstorms, hurricanes and other weather extremes are caused by solar-driven changes in global jet streams and warm-cold fronts, not by CO2, and that claims about recent years being the “warmest ever” are based on false or falsified temperature data.

In various parts of the world, the climate debate displays different features. The U.S. and other parts of the non-European Anglo-Saxon world feature highly polarized and politicized debates along the left-versus-right divide. In Europe, all major political parties are still toeing the “official” IPCC line. In both arenas, with a few notable exceptions, skeptical views – even from well-known scientists with impeccable credentials – tend to be ignored and/or actively suppressed by governments, academia and the media.

Nevertheless, skepticism about man-made climate disasters is gradually gaining ground.

In my own country, the Netherlands, for instance, that skepticism even has received some official recognition, thus dissolving the information monopoly of climate alarmists. The Lower House’s Standing Committee on Environment recently organized a one-day hearing at which both climate-chaos adherents and disaster skeptics could freely discuss their different views before key parliamentarians who decide climate policy.

This hearing was followed by a special seminar organized by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences, using the same format but focusing on scientific topics. The academy will soon publish a report about this seminar.

Europe often brags about its emission-trading system (ETS), regarding itself as the vanguard of an international climate policy. In the European view, the Copenhagen climate summit should have produced a worldwide extension and sharpening of its ETS. But the vast majority of countries in the world refused to follow Europe’s example, so the meeting turned into a fiasco. Its follow-up in Cancun, Mexico, at year’s end surely will produce a similar result. For good reason.

Contrary to official claims, Europe’s experience with ETS is dismal. The system is expensive and prone to massive fraud. More important, it serves no useful purpose.

The European Environmental Agency tracks Europe’s performance regarding the reduction of CO2 emissions. Its latest report states: “The EU’s greenhouse gas inventory report … shows that emissions have not only continued their downward trend in 2008, but have also picked up pace. The EU-27’s emissions stood 11.3 percent below their 1990 levels, while EU-15 achieved a reduction of 6.9 percent compared to Kyoto base-year levels.”

On the face of it, the system seems to be pretty successful. However, much of the downward trend was caused by the global economic recession, not the ETS. Moreover, both climate-chaos proponents and climate-disaster skeptics agree that the scheme will have no detectable impact on worldwide temperatures – perhaps 0.1 degrees – though this crucial piece of information has been carefully and deliberately shielded from the public eye.

What about renewable energy as an alternative? Consider these costs for various sources of electricity in cents per kilowatt-hour: Nuclear is 4, coal is 4, natural gas is 5, onshore wind is 13, biomass is 16 and solar is 56.

Obviously, the price tag for renewables is extremely high when compared to that for hydrocarbons. The additional costs can be justified either by imminent fossil-fuel scarcity (the “oil peak”), which would send prices for petroleum and coal through the roof, or by the threat of man-made global warming. But on closer inspection, neither argument is tenable.

The authoritative International Energy Agency does not foresee any substantial scarcity of oil and gas in the near to medium future, and coal reserves remain sufficient for centuries to come. As for global warming, there has been no statistically significant rise in average worldwide temperatures since 1995. Meanwhile, recent peer-reviewed studies indicate that increasing CO2 levels in the atmosphere (natural or man-made) have minimal effects on climate change – and on balance, this plant-fertilizing gas is beneficial, rather than harmful, for mankind and the biosphere.

All this argues for a closer look at the cost/benefit relationship of investing in renewable-energy projects, to prevent a massive waste of resources in uncompetitive and thus wasteful forms of energy. Because every cloud has a silver lining, the ongoing economic crisis might give extra impetus toward that end.

When The Collapse Comes: Will FEMA Camps Look Like Club Med?

leave a comment »

November 13, 2010: John Galt (Character from Atlas Shrugged) / Activist Post – November 12, 2010

The collapse of American society occurs in early 2011. The system was fundamentally headed toward this stunning unraveling for decades, but it took a multi-city nuclear “terror” attack on American soil to plunge the system into chaos.

Food, fuel, and medicine supply lines disappeared overnight and money quickly became useless. It was every man for himself and there was little the government could do to stem the flow of anarchy and looting in the streets.

Roving gangs of armed thugs began to stalk suburban streets, ransacking homes for rations. It is a time where everyone is gripped by fear and uncertainty. Communications are temporarily jammed, forcing those with electricity or battery radios to be glued to emergency broadcast signals. Reports of more bombs and street violence fill the airwaves.

You’ve just finished the last of your canned goods, water is no longer coming out of your tap, and the batteries are getting low in your car as you huddle to listen to the radio, refusing to turn it off for fear of missing important instructions. You gaze into your family’s terrified eyes and contemplate your dismal options.

The government announces one-time sweeps of neighborhoods to “rescue” desperate citizens from the anarchy and bring them to gathering centers or camps where they will be guaranteed food and security. You’ve read articles and have seen movies about the nefarious nature of FEMA camps being described as prison internment camps — and you remember post-Katrina New Orleans — but what choice do you have?

You’ve exhausted your supplies, most of your neighbors already ran for the hills to stay with their extended family. Now, you begin to hear the rumbling patrols of bandits coming up your street smashing into your neighbors’ homes. Just then you hear a government chopper marking its landing. The bandits duck and hide when they hear the helicopter, and the National Guard soldiers call out for survivors over the loudspeaker…

You feel relieved to be on the chopper safe and sound with your family and a few precious belongings. You think to yourself, “This won’t be so bad. Heck, they may even have TV to watch all the news of the unfolding chaos in safety, and at least we can use a toilet that flushes.” Upon arrival, you learn that the camps will be on lockdown 24/7 for the inhabitants’ protection — at least until the tension dissipates.

Nonetheless, your family is grateful to cram into one room with cots to bunk on, one chest to store your personal items, three square meals a day, and dorm-style bathrooms to share with floor mates. You’re happy to be assigned a job to feel useful during this time of crisis and to occupy your mind. It’s also nice to have the support and companionship of other refugees, and you scarcely have time or energy to reflect on the prison-like rules in the complex.

As time progresses, more people are rescued to the camp and a functioning mini-community takes form, all under the watchful eyes of armed soldiers. The more time that passes, the more that free-thinking inhabitants begin to question how the government is still able to get food to the camps when there is such overwhelming disruption still displayed on the TV.

Realizing that food is still being grown and processed somewhere, it appears that it must be calm and tranquil somewhere. You begin to imagine beautiful farms with open corn fields, vegetable gardens, fresh milk, and swallows in the barn.

Suddenly, you remember what it’s like to be a free human being where strenuous work on the farm to achieve self-sufficiency seems far more appealing than the strictly enforced rules and menial tasks at the compound. You decide to pack the family to leave the compound and brave the wild unknown in search of independence.

However, the warden of the compound refuses to allow you to leave, as he’s still convinced that it is far too dangerous to let anyone except armed soldiers to go off campus under his watch. He claims that other camps have allowed people to leave only to find them slaughtered a day or two later.

Others begin to question their freedom, too, and a large group forms an alliance to venture out together. The warden then declares it a crime against the community’s collective well-being to defect, claiming their jobs are too important to the survival of the compound.

Reality now sets in. Everyone immediately realizes that they are a prisoner. From then on life becomes nearly unbearable, but after a few years the best behaved inmates may be able to relocate into highly monitored condos in sanitized communities. Never mind the cameras in your house, they’re for your protection. Keep your head down and do your duty.

Let’s get real for a moment. Given all we know about corporate-government false flags and plans for FEMA camps, will we have the courage when we look into the scared eyes of our children to refuse government “help” when the manufactured collapse comes?

Perhaps you’ll be prepared with a month or two of rations, but, assuredly, that is when the remaining masses will be most desperate as well…
