Expedition Finds Coral Reefs Severely Slimed From BP Oil Disaster

leave a comment »

December 22, 2010: Monica Heger / LiveScience.com via Activist Post - December 22, 2010

“It reminds me of going to a family funeral,” said Charles Fisher, a biology professor at Penn State University, and chief scientist on a recent mission to study the impact of the Gulf oil spill on coral in the area.

Just like seeing extended family, “it’s always fun to go into the deep sea, and we saw a lot of life,” he said. “But, on the other hand the reason you’re there is not a happy reason. Some corals have been severely slimed. Some are dead or dying.”

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Woods Hole, Mass. led a nine-day mission this month to study the effects of the oil spill on life at the bottom of the sea. A team of scientists set out on a research vessel, spending just over a week in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico.

Equipped with both an autonomous submarine called Sentry, as well as a submersible called Alvin, the scientists photographed, mapped and collected samples from the Gulf nearly 24 hours a day. They completed six dives on Alvin, and set up a camera near the site of a dying coral reef, which will snap photos every hour for the next two months monitoring the coral’s heath.

Typical Gulf Day

A typical day on the ship actually began the night before, Fisher told OurAmazingPlanet. The scientists would program and launch the robot Sentry, which would scout the area, returning sometime between 2 am and 6 am. After collecting Sentry, the scientists would then go through the data collected, and make the final preparations for the human dive in Alvin.

Around 8 am, Alvin’s pilot and two scientists would climb aboard the 6-foot-wide (1.8 meters) sphere within the submersible and begin their hour-and-a-half-long descent to the seafloor. The next six or so hours were spent on the seafloor collecting samples and taking photos, and then the scientists would surface around 5 pm, just in time to begin the night’s work.

A Smoking Gun

The expedition follows on the heels of an earlier cruise in which many of the same scientists found dozens of coral species 7 miles (11 kilometers) from the spill site that appeared to be dead or dying. The scientists revisited that same site, looked for other coral reefs, and took photos and samples from both the sick coral as well as another colony of reefs that appeared healthy.

“I probably had the happiest experience on the cruise,” said Chris German, chief scientist for deep submergence at Woods Hole. “I got to see the healthy coral.”

More disheartening were the damaged and dying corals coated with a brown gooey substance. While German said the team was refraining from making any conclusions about the source of the brown goo before the analysis was complete, he said, “it doesn’t look like it’s part of the natural system.”

The coral were “covered in brown goop that we haven’t seen anywhere else,” German said, describing the site as a “smoking gun” that may be representative of other impacted coral communities.

German said that the coral coated in brown goop was about 7 miles southwest of the spill site. Based on the ocean currents and the dynamics of the gushing oil, scientists were able to predict where the oil plume was likely to spread. The dying coral was found in that area, while the healthy coral – discovered about 15 miles (24 km) southeast of where the rig exploded – was likely out of range of the plume, German said.

The next step is to analyze both the dying and healthy coral and determine definitively whether the brown goop covering the dying coral is in fact oil from the spill. Scientists will be doing molecular, chemical and genetic analyses to try and determine whether there are unseen impacts as well, such as from the chemical oil dispersant Corexit. And in two months, the researchers will collect the camera monitoring the dying coral to see how the organisms have changed.

Fisher said the team will also continue to look for other coral communities. “We don’t know what’s in most of the Gulf,” he said. “Just in this one area, the corals we found, the impact was severe. We saw a lot of completely dead corals. A few were doing well, but most were severely impacted.”

WTF? Twisted Joke As The CIA Creates The “WikiLeaks Task Force”

leave a comment »

December 22, 2010: Kurt Nimmo / Infowars.com – December 22, 2010

You can’t make this stuff up. The CIA has established a Wikileaks Task Force and it’s acronym is WTF, same as the ubiquitous internet slang term.

According to the Washington Post, the task force was officially created to examine the impact of 250,000 Wikileaks released diplomatic files.

“Officially, the panel is called the WikiLeaks Task Force. But at CIA headquarters, it’s mainly known by its all-too-apt acronym: W.T.F.,” writes Greg Miller for the Post. “The irreverence is perhaps understandable for an agency that has been relatively unscathed by WikiLeaks.”

Many have asked if Wikileaks is a CIA front. In 2007, John Young, now publisher of Cryptome, claimed the organization was a CIA front. In July, investigative journalist Wayne Madsen said his sources believe Wikileaks “is linked to U.S. cyber-warfare and computer espionage operations, as well as to Mossad’s own cyber-warfare activities.”

Young stopped having anything to do with Wikileaks after the organization admitted taking money from the Open Society Institute, a George Soros operation. The CIA has created a large number of front organizations. Here is a list of known and suspected CIA fronts.

“Throughout its entire history, the CIA has set up an elaborate shell game of ‘proprietaries’ (front companies), money-laundering operations and off-the-books projects so complex that no outsider — and few insiders — could ever keep track of them. BCCI was neither the first nor the last of these,” writes Mark Zepezauer.

At the Campaign for Liberty Regional Conference in Atlanta earlier this year, Rep. Ron Paul said the CIA “runs everything.” Is it crazy to think it might also run Wikileaks? It is only natural to ask such questions. Ron Paul’s comments on the CIA and Alex Jones’ response…

Mobile Guard Towers Being Deployed In America’s Neighborhoods

with 2 comments

December 22, 2010: South New Jersey TRT Editors / South New Jersey TRT - December 18, 2010

Image: SFPD Mobile Guard Tower in San Francisco Bay Area park. (2009)

Recently members of the South New Jersey Tyranny Response Team, while driving down a slow backstreet in a small New Jersey town, found this, a mobile guard tower! With tinted windows hiding the “authorities” from the public, a hydraulic lift system and cameras on each side, the tower was an intimidating structure.

This is a small town with low crime and the tower was placed next to a clean and well maintained city park.

What could the reason behind this be? Conditioning? Perhaps a trial run to see the reaction of the people? As we watched, we saw others slow down and stare in wonderment. No one approached the guard tower. It seems no one complained either because the prison guard tower was later brought back again for a few days.

We thought that it could be for the train station. But then why wouldn’t they just put an officer in the station? Why the blacked out windows? Why is it positioned in the middle of the park and not closer to the train station?

This is clearly meant to condition all the local citizens to accept the police state that is now America. Our nation is supposed to be based on liberty and freedom, now it has been turned into a virtual prison with literal guard towers on small streets, cameras at intersections and body scanners at our airports. This is all meant to show you that you are no better to those with the power than any common criminal. It is about conditioning, not safety.

Please, stop accepting this sort of conditioning and start working to prevent the growing police state that is now choking our once free nation.

The Day Of Reckoning: CBS “60 Minutes” Hits Right On The Money

December 22, 2010: Greg Hunter / USAWatchdog.com - December 22, 2010

I have been pretty hard on “CBS 60 Minutes” for doing fluff interviews with Fed Chief Ben Bernanke and not asking the hard questions that would be obvious to a freshman journalism student.

In all fairness, I have to admit last Sunday’s story called “The Day of Reckoning” was an eye-opening, hard-hitting piece. It was about the dire financial troubles that are overwhelming many state budgets.

My only criticism – “60 Minutes” is a little late coming to the party. But as that old cliche’ goes, “better late than never.”

Since this website was launched nearly a year and a half ago, USAWatchdog.com has mentioned many times the dire financial situation many states face. California alone is $19 billion in the hole, and Illinois is basically a deadbeat when it comes to paying its bills. CBS broke some new ground with this story.

Banking analyst Meredith Whitney predicted as many as 100 “sizeable” municipal bond defaults in 2011! It is one thing to read a great quote, it is quite another to see some one’s face when they say it. Facial expressions say much more than words can ever capture.

Take, for example, Ben Bernanke’s quivering lips when he said that it was a “myth” the Fed was “printing money” – priceless! Please enjoy the 60 Minutes story below that went out of its way to NOT sugar-coat the truth…

Net Neutrality: FCC Control Of The Internet – Good Luck With That

leave a comment »

December 22, 2010: The Staff Report Editors / The Daily Bell – December 21, 2010

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will mark the winter solstice by taking an unprecedented step to expand government’s reach into the Internet by attempting to regulate its inner workings. In doing so, the agency will circumvent Congress and disregard a recent court ruling. How did the FCC get here? For years, proponents of so-called “net neutrality” have been calling for strong regulation of broadband “on-ramps” to the Internet, like those provided by your local cable or phone companies.

Rules are needed, the argument goes, to ensure that the Internet remains open and free, and to discourage broadband providers from thwarting consumer demand. That sounds good if you say it fast. Nothing is broken that needs fixing, however. – Wall Street Journal / Robert M. MacDowell

Dominant Social Theme: It’s over. It’s a catastrophe. It’s finished.

Free-Market Analysis: Should the government interfere with the Internet? This is a very difficult question to answer. There are so many ways to look at the problem. There are so many things to consider. On the one hand we have things to think about deeply, and on the other we have items that will take deciding as well. After much cogitation we will make up our minds. This will be difficult too. And perhaps it will be too late. Perhaps the FCC will have decided for us. Perhaps we should take away the FCC’s right to decide. So many questions!

Of course, the above is a modest attempt at irony. We have stated our position on this issue numerous times, but given that today is the day for the FCC to announce its decision; we will state for the record that it probably does not matter. In terms of the “biggest picture,” the Internet is what it is and it will take governments – and the controlling elites behind them – a very long time indeed to tame this technology, relatively speaking.

It began as a technological highway created by the Pentagon’s DARPA to link together military researchers with university libraries, etc. The email facility helped expand the system. Then two Steves in a garage created the personal computer and the facility exploded. It was never meant to be what it became. It is a perfect example of the unintended consequences illustrated in free-market economist FA Hayek’s spontaneous order. It has given the modern-day Anglo-American elite fits. Senator Jay Rockefeller said in open session that it might have been better if it were never invented. Better for whom?

The elite would take it down if it could. Alternatively, those who have the most to lose (or have lost the most) will try to control and it explain it. They might as well try to rake the wind instead of the leaves. Here’s an example of the ups and downs of the Gutenberg press in Britain, to which we have often compared the Internet. There was no real way to contain it at the time, though the powers-that-be surely tried:

English newspapers were among the first in the world to use headlines to attract readers and woodcuts to illustrate stories. English newspapers also set new business standards. They hired women as reporters, printed advertisements as a source of revenue, and paid newsboys, or more commonly newsgirls, to sell papers in the streets.

The fledgling English press faced censorship throughout much of the 17th century. Early newspapers called diurnals – the predecessors of the today’s dailies – featured news from all over Europe and occasionally America or Asia. However, government officials discouraged reporting on local matters. In addition, the government tightly regulated print shops. In England, as in most other European countries, the government required printers to have licences to print the news. Printers could lose their licences if they published anything offensive to authorities.

The first major change in this arrangement came in the years before the outbreak of the English Civil War (1642-1648). As Parliament, under the leadership of Oliver Cromwell, struggled with King Charles I, national news assumed a new importance … The first English newspaper to attempt to report on national news was The Heads of Several Proceedings in This Present Parliament, a weekly that appeared in 1641. The public’s appetite for domestic news grew steadily, and soon a number of papers covered national politics and other previously censored topics …

After the monarchy was restored under King Charles II in 1660, the government gradually ended licensing provisions and other restrictions. The English press published in an atmosphere of considerable freedom – as long as it did not criticize the government. During the upheaval of the Glorious Revolution in 1688 (when Parliament deposed King James II in favour of William of Orange) the English press burst free of nearly all government restrictions. The law that required printers to obtain licences lapsed in 1695. Belief in the right of the press to question and criticize government eventually took hold in England and migrated to its American colonies. (Newspapers, Encarta Encyclopedia)

These sorts of tools – toolkits at the edge of what the human race is capable of – will be used to exhaustion. As we have written previously, the taming of the Internet will not likely happen in this generation – and it has nothing to do with legislation or Money Power and everything to do with the way naked apes relate to technology. The Internet is at once a broadband communicative device, yet one that is capable of providing people the most exquisite details in the same instant. If you asked someone to make it up 50 years ago we doubt one person in a million could have come close to predicting it.

Worried about technological censorship? Technologically, the Internet has never been a free-market product. The “highway” was initially built by the US government and much of the traffic is still controlled by a few powerful government-supervised routers. But it is what has happened “off” the highways, in the byways that is so important. There is a plethora of on-ramps and other connections that have flourished. These are the enterprises of the market itself and these are the facilities that Internet regulation will likely not be able to damage, or certainly not beyond repair. More will be built, often by adolescents. And the threat posed by the ‘Net to the power elite’s march towards one-world governance and the complete destruction of individual freedoms will continue to be felt.

People are so concerned about the pricing of the Internet. But the revolution of the Internet lies in its truth telling, and truth telling can be condensed into a few paragraphs of text and sent via email to thousands or millions. There are plenty of ways to distribute non-mainstream opinions, and most of them will remain inexpensive even if it becomes more costly to watch video or play on-line group games.

Conclusion: Millions and billions of words will be written about the coming government (power elite) control of the Internet; how bad it will be; how much worse it could be than it is. Plenty of business models will be floated. Much hair will be pulled out. Clothes will be rent, metaphorically anyway. But in the end, it likely will not matter much. Instinctively, humans will expand the Internet because they must. The government will do this. But others will do THAT. It is not going to be easily or neatly controllable. It is not going to be conveniently regulated. It is not going to be turned off by a switch installed at the White House. It is going to cause fundamental change. It already has.

Beware: The Real Terrorists Have Begun To Increase Their Chatter!

leave a comment »

December 22, 2010: Eric Blair / Activist Post - December 21, 2010

Remember the buzzword chatter? When our criminal government kept the sheeple on the razor’s edge of fear because they’d say that chatter levels coming from Al-Qaeda were increasing?

Well, today, in this article, I’m going to openly fear monger to you, because the chatter by the real terrorists, the ruling elite, is getting louder and more urgent — prompting me to warn you that it seems like a terror attack is coming soon.

All the signs are here.  Clearly desperate for public approval and budget justifications, the government has recently made several bogus terror arrests of entrapped FBI patsies.  Perhaps they thought the public would give them some political props for thwarting their own staged events. However, they’re beginning to realize that the general public has a bad case of “boy who cried wolf” syndrome where these glorious victories in the ongoing war on terror don’t carry much effect anymore with people struggling to pay bills. Therefore, the regular folks must be reminded that the wolf can still bite.

Three recent stories seem to indicate a higher than normal level of urgency about an impending attack.  The first was the report from Iraq that “intelligence” gathered from the recent round-up of militants revealed a threat of an attack inside the U.S. and Europe during the Christmas season. Reuters claimed in certain terms, but through a faceless spokesman:

Al Qaeda is planning attacks in the United States, Britain and Europe around Christmas, one year after a failed attempt to bomb a U.S.-bound passenger plane, a senior Iraqi official said Thursday…’One of the (men) confessed that ISI will execute attacks inside the United States, Britain, and Europe,’ Hussein said. ‘They were making preparations for this goal.’

Okay.  Does anyone actually believe poor militants living in Iraq can prepare and execute a successful terror attack inside the United State?  Regardless, DHS sent an alert to all local law enforcement, even though an official claimed that, “While there was no specific or credible information about a possible attack, the bulletin was based on intelligence from abroad.”  It is this kind of absurdity that reveals the agenda, because this is not a credible threat on any level except to those who need to float warnings before they strike.

Keeping in mind that the original press release had “no specific or credible information,” because right on cue an ABC News story a few days later describes not just the specific threats, but also the motivation. For the dumbed-down, non-reading public the article title says all you need to know: Holiday Terror Warning Cites Car Bombs and Small Arms Attack; with the sub-title, Authorities Worry About Christmas Attack For ‘Psychological Impact.’

This would seem to indicate that the real terrorists are seeking maximum ‘psychological impact’ with their next successful attack on U.S. soil.  Perhaps they are getting ready to pull the trigger on something big.  However, even a small arms attack would accomplish some of the establishment’s incremental goals like restricting the public’s ability to purchase semi-automatic rifles.  It’s much like the recent article about potential terror attacks to poison the food supply while the food safety bill S.510 bounces between houses.

Finally, the third and most telling story was a small bit by the Associated Press today regarding Attorney General, Eric Holder’s appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America where he feigns concern for “homegrown terror threats.”  The AP reported:

Holder said the terrorism threat is real and constant. He says he’s concerned that the authorities may have missed a signal that an attack is coming. He says Americans have to be prepared for “potentially bad news.”

Of course, the establishment always uses the example of “anti-American cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, a U.S. citizen believed to be hiding in Yemen” as a claim that “Americans” are indeed seeking to strike the United States. This terror ring-leader of patsies has been exposed as a Pentagon insider by Fox News, yet he’s still being used justify the surveillance-industrial complex, the snitch culture, and the clampdown on freedoms in the name of fighting “domestic terrorism by American citizens.”

So, we’ve gone from a threat with no credible or specific information, to being on alert for car bombs and small arms attacks with the purpose of inflicting maximum psychological impact, to our chief law enforcer saying we must prepare for potentially bad news.

Besides seeking a psychological reaction from the sheep, the real terrorists also desperately need to muffle the truth movement before it grows too big to control.  As the masses become more aware of the criminal actions by the government and its corporate cartel partners, the more they need a distraction. Even Geraldo Rivera has seen through the bogus terror plots, and said so on national TV.

This all says to me that something is coming because time is running out on their lies.  Be afraid, be very afraid, but not of the coming attack, rather for the establishment’s response to it.
